Lasso Loop

Lasso is an ambitious multinational project to tackle the recycling challenges for domestic plastic, glass, and metal with an integrated home appliance solution. Starting the design with a blank sheet of paper, Lasso approached Ingeniunda with the task of designing all the electrical systems, electronics, software, and data processing for the prototype appliance. At the start of the project, the only input available were a few rough sketches of the mechanical structure.

Drawing inspiration from its extensive expertise with industrial and consumer electronics, Ingeniunda selected hardware and software engineers with the right profile to assemble amatching team to take on the Lasso challenges. Working against a tight deadline, Ingeniunda designed hardware solutions to implement a bespoke sensor fusion system, developed a communication protocol to interconnect sub systems in the prototype, designed circuit boards to implement hardware functionality, and developed a modular software implementation consisting of numerous microcontrollers and microprocessors to meet the targets set by the customer.

Ingeniunda offered Lasso a full-stack solution, from selecting and programming microcontrollers in C/C++ all the way to high-level control routines, machine vision, and artificial intelligence. Ingeniunda managed the electrical, electronics, and software aspects of the project and collaborated directly with subcontractors and server administrators to tie data links into the back-end server systems. During the project, components were designed and manufactured by Ingeniunda in Belgium and in the United Kingdom, with quality control, shipping, and supply chain management also managed by Ingeniunda.
